Hello Families,
We just want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you who braved the rainy weather and came to parent/teacher conferences on Wednesday. Your support and dedication to your child’s education is so important and we can already see everyone is well on their way to a successful future. We are lucky to have such amazing parents, it sure makes our jobs easier! This week in 411 we discovered the power of wind. We used a large fan to discuss what the wind felt like on our bodies and how we all felt different things. We then predicted what items would blow away and what items would stay in place. The children loved this activity and many choose to explore it during free choice. We then tried the same activity with a smaller, less powerful fan to see the difference of what each could blow away. The preschoolers also figured out the best way to blow a notecard with their breath. They then counted how many breathes it took to blow different objects across the table. You will see lots of art work that included blowing through a straw coming home. Thank you to Kelly's Mom in the AM class, who took the time to volunteer this week! Next week is a very short week! We will talk about things we are thankful for. REMINDERS: Parent/Child Activity: Tuesday November 21, 2017 9:15-10:15 AM It's gonna be awesome! This will be school for Tuesday! NO School: November 22-25 Enjoy time with your family and friends! Have a great weekend, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Moore What a busy week in 411! We fit in our leaf study just in time before the snow! The kids where amazed by the different colors and shapes of the leaves. They enjoyed going on a leaf hunt and finding the most vibrate colors.
In addition, we focused on numbers. We looked at many different ways to make five and used mental math to figure how many dots where on a page. Information about our number exploration will be going up on the bulletin board in the next couple of days. Next week, we will be exploring the wind. The preschoolers will explore the strength of the wind outdoors (weather dependent) and inside by using a strong fan. The preschoolers will also use the wind that they create themselves to see how they can push objects. This weekend see how wind affects the leaves and snow on the ground. Parent teacher conferences: November 15th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. If you need to schedule a special time or day please let me know, I would be happy to schedule a time that works for you. Please be sure to sign up for the Parent Teacher conferences (on the clipboard beside the sign in sheet). As the weather gets cooler please be sure to dress your child appropriately. In addition, please check your child’s extra clothes in their cubby to make sure they are weather appropriate for the changing weather. Please work with your child on getting dressed on their own. It takes a long time to get everyone dressed for outside and we are happy to help. Over the next couple of weeks have your child show you the preschool flip. Also, try getting gloves on independently. Thanks for your help! Being that the days are shorter and the weather is cooler outside time will start to become limited. November 23rd-25th – Thanksgiving Holiday December 21st-Field Trip to Chicago Children's Museum Please mark your calendars! Have a great weekend, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Moore Dear Families,
We had a short but productive week in 411! Let us start with giving a HUGE thank you to all our wonderful parent volunteers. Our first field trip of the school year was a success thanks to each and every one of you!! We could not do it without your help. Keep an eye out for information about how to volunteer for our second field trip to the Chicago Child’s Museum which will take place in December (more info to come in the next few weeks!) Our trip to Eden Pumpkin Patch sparked lots of pumpkin inquiry in our classroom this week. After experiencing the pumpkin patch and getting a pumpkin, we had to come back and investigate. We opened up a pumpkin to find out what was inside, we scooped out the guts and seeds and were using vocabulary words such as “slimy”, “gooey”, “slippery” and “fragrant”. Next week we will continue to investigate fall and many of the changes that come along with it. We will look closer at some of the leaves we have found focusing on the changes that are occurring outside our window. Looking for leaves with your child is a great opportunity to increase language development and scientific thinking. Ask your child what they see when they look at the leaf? What color(s) do they see? Why do they think the leaves are changing colors? What do they like about the leaf? Then bring in the cool leaf for us to examine as a class! Upcoming events: Wednesday, November 15th- Parent & Teacher Conference- No regular class
Have a great weekend, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Moore |
