Preschool Newsletter –October 26th
We have a very busy week in preschool this week! We will be continuing our study of pumpkins. This week we will look inside a pumpkin and use our senses to describe the pumpkin. We will read both fiction and non-fiction books about pumpkins and compare the stories. This week we will also begin doing a letter of the week. We will start with the letter L. We will practice making the sound, recognizing the letter and writing the letter. Please help us out by looking for the letter L around your house and bringing in a picture of an object that starts with the letter L by Wednesday, October 28th. This will help us create our letter of the day book. Reminders:
Thanks, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Green

Hello!
This week we will start our unit on pumpkins in preparation for our field trip! We will be reading Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, Pumpkin Circle by George Levenson, The Little Old Lady Who was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams. We will be learning about how pumpkins grow, what we can do with pumpkins, pumpkin traditions and we will explore the inside of a pumpkin. Please turn in your field trip forms ASAP. We need to determine if we need 2 or 3 buses this week. If you are able to go we would so appreciate your help! We need all parent volunteers on board and ready to help. From past experiences, we wanted to highlight some important things to remember. Please do not use your cell phone around students. We want to be fully engaged with children during this special time. Please keep track of ALL students in your group-they should be with you at all times. Please do not feed students because we have major food allergies. Do not buy anything in the gift shop (it is not fair to other students) Discuss what you are seeing on the trip! This is a great time for conversation! Make sure every student in your group is securely fastened in their seats. Please toilet children in groups with another adult (pair with another parent for bathroom stops) Pictures are NOT our first priority, student safety comes first. Please no smoking. Field trips are very important part to preschool. They give students great experiences that help them grow as learners, however this is a very stressful time for teachers. Our number one priority is keeping 40 students safe in a new and unfamiliar environment and to do so we need the help of volunteers. Please be engaged and ready to pitch in! When in doubt, ask a teacher what you can do to help! I know we will have a great time! Here is a link for Eden’s Place : http://www.edenplacenaturecenter.org/ FYI, birthday treats need to be healthy snacks. Good options are fruit, goldfish or graham crackers. Please be very aware that we have students with peanut allergies, fish/shellfish allergies as well as egg allergies. Please be aware of this when purchasing snack. Students cannot bring any food into the classroom to ensure all students have a safe learning environment. Thank-you for all the classroom volunteers that have helped us this school year! We love having you in our class! We will not be having a Halloween party, but we will have a Parent-Child Activity on October 29th from 9:30-10:30. Families can dress up like their favorite literary characters (ie. the Caterpillar from The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, the mouse from If Give a Mouse a Cookie). We need more soap and disinfecting wipes! Please help us out if you think about it! This week we will continue to learn about apples! We will be practicing labeling the parts of an apple, dissecting an apple and counting the pips as well as following a recipe and making apple sauce. We will be reading 10 Apples on Top by Dr Seuss, Big Red Apple by Tony Johnson as well as re-reading some of our favorite apple books from last week. A BIG thanks for all of you who sent in apples last week! I REALLY appreciate it! Please send in small pumpkins or goards for next week.
Preschool Newsletter: October 6, 2015
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! This week we will be starting on mini-unit on apples. All throughout October we will be focusing on Fall and science. This week the preschoolers will be drawing observational drawings of apples. We will be taste testing different apples and reading many different fiction and non-fiction books about apples. Last week we began small groups. Students work in small group for 5-10 minutes. Some student will work with a teacher while others will work independently. The preschoolers did an amazing job with small groups and we are excited to continue the fun this week. We will begin to accept volunteers in the classroom this month. If you have a volunteer form on record with the school then we would love for you to come in. There is a calendar available on the cubbies to sign up for a day. Volunteers will do everything from light housekeeping, putting away children’s work, reading with small groups, organizing the library area and any special projects we might have. Our first field trip will be this month. We will be going to Eden’s Place Pumpkin Patch on October 30th. Field trip forms will be available starting this week. The cost will be $12 for students and parent chaperones. The trip will take place in the morning and will be class for the day. The afternoon class will attend in the morning and class will be cancelled in the afternoon. We will also have our first parent-child activity on October 29th. There will be at least 4 of these a year and everyone is encouraged to attend. Again, this will be school for the day. The activities will take place in the morning and the afternoon class will be cancelled. Reminders:
Thanks and have a great week, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Green |
