I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! This week we will continue our unit on All About Me. We will be reading the book Five Creatures by Emily Jenkins and It's Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr. We will be discussing our families as well as what makes each of us special. We will complete another personal characteristic graph (what colors eyes we have).
This week we will begin small groups. Students will work in small group for 5-10 minutes. Some student will work with a teacher while others will work independently. This will be a work in progress for the first couple weeks. We are excited for your children to start this fun way of learning. Reminders:
Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Green What a busy first full week in preschool! The students are getting more and more comfortable with our daily routine and are busy making new friends. Last week we worked on the classroom rules. The students helped us come up with rules for our room after reading, David Goes to School by David Shannon.
This week we will read the book, The Recess Queen by Alexis O’Neill. We will use this book to help us figure out how to solve problems within our classroom and what we can do when we are not getting along with our friends. In addition, we will read, Reading Makes You Feel Good by Todd Parr. This book better understand how books can help us learn. Reminders: -All medical records must be turned in by Oct 15th to remain in the preschool program -Please turn in your name letters and kissing hand papers. If you did not receive these please let us know and we will get another one for you. -Please bring a 3 inch binder so that we can start compiling all your students work in one large portfolio for you to see their growth. -The Innsbrook Sale is on! Last week you should have received a packet with information about the sale. This is one of the major ways the school raises money for special programs and activities for the students. Please encourage your friends and family to purchase some great ideas that will be here in time for the holidays. -The morning class begins at 8:45 and ends at 11:20, the afternoon class begins at 1:10 and ends at 3:45. Please be on time as we begin instruction as soon as school starts. Remember to use the main entrance only. -Picture day will be Oct. 9th. More information will be coming about this soon. -The calendar for parent assistance in making playdough is now available above the cubbies. We are off to a great start! Thank you for all your help getting students to school on time this week! The preschoolers are quickly making new friends, learning new routines and getting comfortable in the classroom. This past week we learned how to enter the classroom, use markers and crayons, develop classroom rules and outside procedures. This upcoming week we will continue learning classroom rules and routines. We will be starting small groups and learning more about different materials in the classroom. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me by email at [email protected] Reminders: -For the safety of all the students at Ray, only use the main entrance on Kimbark for arrival and dismissal. -Check your child’s mailbox each day for any important notes or work that will be going home. -Please send in a 3 inch binder to class so that we can put together a portfolio of all your student work. - We use homemade play dough on a regular basis in the classroom. It would be very helpful if parents would volunteer to make a batch every two weeks or so. I will share the recipe that we like the best (it is very easy). There will be a sign up sheet/calendar placed by the sign-in/sign-out sheet. -If you have not already, please turn in your students medical records, kissing hand homework, name letter and family picture. (The name homework can be found below) -When dropping of homework, notes and anything else that needs to be seen by the teacher please place them in the notes container on top of the cubbies. Teachers will not be going through backpacks. -Weekly newsletters will be on the blog only after today. Please let us know if you need a printed copy. Just a few last minute changes before the 1st day on Tuesday, September 8! Administration has requested that students enter through the main doors at Ray. Parents or guardians (18 or older) must walk students all the way to the classroom and sign them in. We do this to ensure every students safety. Please exit through the main doors. Parking can be difficult so please allow yourself EXTRA time so the first day is a success! Your child will have a much better first day if it can be as relaxed and stress-free as possible.
Please be sure to review the packet that was sent home so you are aware of your phase in time and procedures (new students only). A good breakfast/lunch is important because we do not do snacks at school. Please no backpacks unless your child goes to childcare after school. Can’t wait to see everyone on the first day!
