The students really enjoyed reading, The Mitten by both Jan Brett and Alvin Tresselt. You can check out some of the activities we did on our bulletin board in the library. We were very busy exploring how many many animal crackers we could fit in different sized mittens. The children also had a chance to re-enact the story to practicing their retelling.
Next week, we will be shifting our focus to community helpers and different occupations. The preschoolers in both classes have been showing an interest in police officers so we thought we would start by hearing what the preschoolers know about the jobs people can have. Talk to your children about the different jobs people in your family have. in case you missed it: I am excited and nervous to announce that I am pregnant due in August. In the past I have had higher risk pregnancies but, so far this one is looking good. I just wanted to share so that if your students come home mentioning my already large stomach you are able to answer any questions that they might have. Thank you for your understanding! Please remember that only staff members can open up the doors. Do not open the doors for anyone! Have great weekend, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Moore

We have a had wonderfully busy week in room 411! The preschoolers enjoyed decorating their valentine cards and valentine bags. We graphed the color of conversation hearts and finished out our volcano study. Finally, ending the week with fit Friday, learning about the Chinese New Year.
Next week, we will be focusing on the story the Mitten. There are two famous versions of the story one by Alvin Tresselt and Jan Brett. We will be practicing retelling, adding one on and prediction how many animal crackers can fit in different sized mittens. Please remember to pay attention to the weather as we have had some big shifts and make sure your student is dressed appropriately. We will be going outside daily as weather permits. Reminder: There is no school on Monday, February 19th I am excited and nervous to announce that I am pregnant due in August. In the past I have had higher risk pregnancies but, so far this one is looking good. I just wanted to share so that if your students come home mentioning my already large stomach you are able to answer any questions that they might have. Thank you for your understanding! Have a wonderful weekend, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Moore Next week we will be doing our one week volcano study. We will be doing many experiments and watching videos of volcanoes erupting. The preschoolers are super excited about this and will most likely be talking about it at home. Please complete the homework so that your student will be able to share some exciting information.
We will be sending home a Progress Report for prekindergarten students on or after Friday, February 9th (depending on how fast the reports print off). These are simply an overview of what your child has been working on this quarter and what the next steps will be. We will meet in April at the Parent & Teacher conference and discuss your child in more detail. Valentine Information We will be decorating our Valentine’s Treat Bags the week of February 12th, so please bring in donations for the bag decorations this week. Thank you! We are looking for donations of stickers, glitter, cool tape, unique stencils, and other “love inspired” decorations. We have our celebration Wednesday, February 14th. We are asking that if your child wishes to give out valentines to their classmates we are asking that you DO NOT ADDRESS the valentines to individual children. It is too hectic and time consuming to assist 20 (morning class has 20 afternoon has 18 children) children in searching for 20 different names and placing the correct cards in the correct bags. You can simply have your child sign (with your assistance if necessary) his or her name to the cards. If the cards need to be assembled (for example if the card needs to have an eraser attached- please attach before you bring them in). If you would like to send a sweet or savory treat we require that all items are individually wrapped and store bought (no homemade items are allowed). We are also a nut, egg, and fish/shellfish free classroom. Please DO NOT bring any treats containing any of the above mentioned items. |
