Dear Families, We had another fall filled week in Room 411! We continued to investigate and learn about apples, which culminated with a homemade applesauce making experience on Wednesday! The children had a wonderful time using the apple peeler. What ways does your family enjoy eating apples? Here is our applesauce recipe if you want to try with your child at home!
Next week we have a short week but we will begin to really focus on pumpkins. We will investigate their height, width, weight and what is inside! Hopefully we will be learning lots during our trip to the pumpkin patch. Important Field Trip Info! We are excited to go on our very first field trip of the year! We will be departing Ray Tuesday, October 31st at 9:15 am and returning at noon (as close to noon as possible). Please do not send your child in a costume. The field trip is occurring in lieu of a traditional Halloween celebration. Please take the flyer next to the mailboxes if you are looking for more traditional Halloween activities. We have plenty of parent volunteers! Thank You! I want to remind everyone of our preschool field trip procedures. Everyone must bring their child into the classroom and sign your child in as you would normally do. Upon arrival back at the school everyone must come into the classroom and sign their child out. We will not dismiss children to parents who wait outside the building or outside the classroom. I have included the updated parent volunteer expectations: FIELD TRIP VOLUNTEERS Parent participation is essential in ensuring that our preschool children have appropriate field trip experiences. We highly appreciate parents who are able to assist us on our outings! We want to thank all of the parents who will be assisting us on our trips in advance! On field trips we ask that parents supervise their child along with a small group of other children. Please remember that these experiences are meant for children and parents to experience together please refrain from cell phone use unless taking photos for great memories. We ask that you follow all safety rules and abide by the set schedule especially for departure times. We ask that you assist in buckling all students into and out of their seat belts. We ask that you buddy up with another adult to take children to the bathroom (if needed). We also ask that parents do not take part in any extra activities that are not included in the pre-planned field trip (i.e. going to any show/exhibit/performance that is an extra cost, or purchase treats or toys at souvenir shops). We have children with severe food allergies and it could be potentially dangerous to partake in treats/food made with unknown ingredients. November will be a very busy month for us. We will move onto to studying leaves and our social focus will be “Being Thankful”. Please keep a look out in your child’s mailbox for a home “collection” activity in the next couple of weeks. Dear Families, We had a wonderful time exploring, dissecting and tasting apples this week. The children learned the different parts of the apples. Some of the new vocabulary words we learned were: pips, flesh, skin, stem, core and leave. In our AM class, we started working with our 4th grade buddies. This week as a “getting to know you” activity, each buddy team drew a picture of each other. We will meet with our buddies every Wednesday! In our PM class, a farmer came and talked to us all about potatoes! We were lucky enough to get to taste some potato wedges and even go home with a potato of our own. Let us know if you made a tasty treat using your potato. Next week we will continue to explore apples and the changes that occur during the fall. If you find any cool fall items, bring them in to share. We are going to make our very own applesauce on Wednesday, October 25th. We are asking for parents to donate more apples. If you are able to donate please bring in the apples by Wednesday, October 25th. Thank you! School Picture day is Tuesday, October 24th. Please be sure to bring in the form and money if you would like photos. We are getting excited to go on our very first field trip on Tuesday, October 31st. Please remember we are not going to have lunch on the trip. We will have a light snack that I will provide. Each child will receive a small pumpkin to bring home. Please be sure to dress your child appropriately. The entire field trip will occur outdoors. If your child has a tendency to get car/vehicle sick please let me know so that we are prepared and can attempt to thwart off the motion sickness. REMINDERS: Tuesday, October 24th- Picture Day Tuesday, October 31st- Field Trip to Eden’s Place November 3rd- No School– Professional Development for Staff November 15th- Parent & Teacher Conferences (more details coming) Have a wonderful week, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Moore Dear Families,
We had a short but busy week in 413! One we started our Fall/Autumn Study with an observational drawing of an apple. One of the important skills we are working on in Pre-K are our observation skills, this skill will help us become future scientists as we create theories, ask questions and figure out how to find the answers. As you are taking a walk with your child, ask them to describe what they are seeing! Next week we will start an in depth study of apples. We will be having our first round of apple tasting Thursday, 12th. We are asking for parents to donate apples for this activity. We are in need of some sort of reddish apple, granny smiths, and yellow delicious apples. If you are able to bring a few in that would be great! If you see a cool gourd or pumpkin please bring it in for us to observe! Also a huge thank you to all the families who came to our Parent/Child Expo! We had a great turn out and hope you had fun playing and learning with your child. REMINDERS: Field Trip Money is Due FRIDAY 10/20. Have a great week, Ms. Weinberg and Ms. Moore We have a couple of important events coming up. Please be sure to mark your calendars! Parent and Child Activity Expo We are excited to have our first Parent and Child Activity Day of the 2017-2018 school year! This will take place Friday, October 13th, in the school cafeteria from 9:15-10:15 am. Please be sure to arrive at 9:15 so that you can complete all of the activities. Parent and Child learning experiences are a crucial part of what makes Ray preschool so successful. The activity day allows parents to join their child in exploring various developmentally appropriate activities during the (hands-on) interactive session. Parents get to experience the games and activities that their child is being exposed to at school. This is a great time for parents to get a better understanding of what Ray’s preschool expectations are for the students. Parents will get new ideas to extend learning at home in addition to gauging what their child can do and what areas their child needs more experiences with. The preschool staff will transform the cafeteria into a learning expo where the parent and child rotate through various activities. Each child needs to have a grown up accompany them for the entire exploration hour. All students (morning and afternoon) are invited to participate in the expo from 9:15- 10:15 am in the school cafeteria. There will be no normal class session on this day. If you are unable to attend the morning expo and would like to get a small sample of what occurred in the morning there will be a smaller version in the afternoon from 1-2 pm. An adult must attend this session with their child as well. If you need to experience the smaller version please let your teacher know. Younger siblings are welcomed at this event. If you are not able to make it please consider asking another special adult to join your child for this special event!
