Urgent: We are in desperate need of tissues. Please consider donating a box today.
Anyone have any BIG BOXES? We are going to be turing our Kitchen area into an auto shop. We need big boxes to make cars and trucks. If you receive any large packages in the next couple weeks please consider bringing us the box. Thanks in advance! During small groups this week we will be using our shape knowledge to create patterns. We will also be sorting upper-case letters and lower-case letters and sorting numbers by their quantities. We will also be continuing our study of transportation. This week we will focus on cars. If you have any fun car books at home please send them in so we can enjoy them as a class. We will find out what the preschoolers already know about cars and then find out what they are particularly interested in learning about cars and then going from there! Have a wonderful week!

Urgent need: Due to all the colds going around, we are completely out of tissues. Please help us by donating a box.
Donorschoose.org: We are so lucky to have had three projects funded through Donorschoose.org this year. This website allows teachers to write grants for materials that they need in their classroom. Earlier this year we received new legos and new materials for the sensory table. Just this week, we had our third project funded for new art materials. We are so excited to get creative with our new art supplies. This week we will begin our Transportation Project. This week we will begin to brainstorm all the different types of transportation that we are aware of. We will then dig deeper into the modes of transportation that the students are most interested in. Talk about transportation with your preschooler and find out which one they find to be the coolest and why. If you have an expertise with transportation or have any great books about transportation please share them with the class! Let me know if you have something you would like to share. During small groups this week students will be playing with the letters in their name, using shaving cream to make shapes and discuss their attributes and will be using non-standard forms of measurement to decide how long different classroom objects are. Each of these activities will be tailored to the students current understanding. I want to thank all of the Pre-K families who came out to “Raise a Glass For Ray” fundraiser. Ms. Thole reported that we raised $6000.00 up from $3400 last year.
The students are counting down the days until our Valentine’s Day exchange and celebration. Please remember that we are NUT FREE school. We will have a fun filled day with making friendship bracelets and friendship paintings. We will need parents to assist especially with the exchange. Please be sure to let me know if you are willing to assist. We will spend the week discussing Valentines Day and Revisiting Friendship. We will be discussing how we have been good friends and how we have been solving our own social problems. We will also being transitioning to our first classroom project. The students have been expressing an interest in transportation so we will start to expand on their knowledge as we begin to plan our project. More information on the project approach can be found here. The weather has been a roller coaster of cold and warm! We will go outdoors as much as possible please remember to dress your children accordingly. I have included an excerpt from the Chicago Public Schools weather guidelines. Hopefully this will assist you in knowing which days we will be going outdoors. Cold Weather Guidelines Cold air does not make us sick. Germs make us sick. Make sure students are getting outside for recess/ gross motor time at your school! Outdoor recess time allows children to get fresh air, provides an opportunity for children to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity, and gives students more activity options than most indoor spaces. Please see the following CPS cold weather guidelines for outdoor recess. Cold Weather Guidelines: » Above 32 degrees F with or without wind chill: Recess should be held outdoors. » Between 31 degrees F and 15 degrees F with or without wind chill: Principal discretion. » Below 15 degrees F with or without wind chill: Recess should be held indoors. Dates to Remember: Valentine’s Day Exchange- Tuesday, February 14th. NO SCHOOL- Monday, February 20th- President’s Day |
