Hello!
This week we will start our unit on pumpkins in preparation for our field trip! We will be reading Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, Pumpkin Circle by George Levenson, The Little Old Lady Who was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams. We will be learning about how pumpkins grow, what we can do with pumpkins, pumpkin traditions and we will explore the inside of a pumpkin. Please turn in your field trip forms ASAP. We need to determine if we need 2 or 3 buses this week. If you are able to go we would so appreciate your help! We need all parent volunteers on board and ready to help. From past experiences, we wanted to highlight some important things to remember. Please do not use your cell phone around students. We want to be fully engaged with children during this special time. Please keep track of ALL students in your group-they should be with you at all times. Please do not feed students because we have major food allergies. Do not buy anything in the gift shop (it is not fair to other students) Discuss what you are seeing on the trip! This is a great time for conversation! Make sure every student in your group is securely fastened in their seats. Please toilet children in groups with another adult (pair with another parent for bathroom stops) Pictures are NOT our first priority, student safety comes first. Please no smoking. Field trips are very important part to preschool. They give students great experiences that help them grow as learners, however this is a very stressful time for teachers. Our number one priority is keeping 40 students safe in a new and unfamiliar environment and to do so we need the help of volunteers. Please be engaged and ready to pitch in! When in doubt, ask a teacher what you can do to help! I know we will have a great time! Here is a link for Eden’s Place : http://www.edenplacenaturecenter.org/ FYI, birthday treats need to be healthy snacks. Good options are fruit, goldfish or graham crackers. Please be very aware that we have students with peanut allergies, fish/shellfish allergies as well as egg allergies. Please be aware of this when purchasing snack. Students cannot bring any food into the classroom to ensure all students have a safe learning environment. Thank-you for all the classroom volunteers that have helped us this school year! We love having you in our class! We will not be having a Halloween party, but we will have a Parent-Child Activity on October 29th from 9:30-10:30. Families can dress up like their favorite literary characters (ie. the Caterpillar from The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, the mouse from If Give a Mouse a Cookie). We need more soap and disinfecting wipes! Please help us out if you think about it!
