Here is a list of supplies your child will need for Pre-K in September: 2 box of facial tissue 2 Bottle of Lysol (disinfecting spray) 3 containers of disinfecting wipes 2 bottles of cleaner (preferred cleaners are: Mrs. Meyers, 409, Clorox foamer) (not Clorox Cleaner) 2 roll of paper towels (Select-A-Size is preferred) 2 box gallon-sized zip-lock bags, 1 box quart-sized zip-lock bags 2 reams of white computer paper 1 ream of colored computer paper 1 container of Hand wipes (Wet ones, baby wipes) 4 bottles of hand soap 3” Binder 1 set of extra clothes 1 family photo 1 small pillow and small blanket and a small comfort object if needed Have a fantastic summer!

Thank you all for a wonderful school year. It was an honor to teach your students and watch them grow into life long learners. Thank you for trusting us with your children, we love them so much!
As we finish off the school year, we will be cleaning the classroom and sending home many things with your child. This week we will: -Walk to the park or pond (depending on the weather) -Enjoy our last Zumba class with Mrs. Cruz -Watch the talent K-7 talent show -Say goodbye to our friends and teachers Upcoming Events: Wednesday June 19th Pack N’ Play: Let us know if you can volunteer to help us pack up! Thursday June 20th 9:30-10:30- End of the Year breakfast at Bixler- bring a snack and join us at Bixler for one last play session! Adult must attend with child. Have a wonderful Summer! This week flew by! We enjoyed Zumba with Mrs. Cruz on Tuesday and Thursday, Used our Imaginations on I day, told many funny Jokes for J day, wrote and gave out cards for Kindness day and took our first trip of the year to Botany Pond! At the pond we saw turtles, ducks and fish! Ask your child what their favorite part was! For our Garden Bites taste test this week we tried Arugula, Spinach and Garlic Greens picked fresh from our Garden! We also had watermelon and Banana. Everyone tried a tiny bite of everything and we had lots of thumbs up! This Wednesday, the Ray Kindergarten Teachers are hosting an Open House for incoming families from 2:45-3:45 PM in the Kindergarten Rooms. Be sure to check it out if you plan to attend Ray in the Fall! Thursday, June 6th is a walking Field Trip to 53rd Street Farmers Market. We will walk there so please dress your child appropriately. We will also be eating lunch at the park before returning to Ray. If you normally send your child to school with a lunch, please make sure you put it in a brown paper bag and make sure everything can be easily thrown away. Dear Families: We want to give a huge shout out to Mrs. Cruz (Simona’s Mom, from Ms. Anna's Class) who has volunteered to teach us Zumba on Tuesday and Thursdays! We have enjoyed starting our mornings with some physical activity and can’t wait to see what other fun music and movements she comes up with! We have been very busy learning all about Caterpillars and Butterflies. Be on the look out for a new bulletin board with all the work we have done so far. This week we will be working in our butterfly journals, doing observational drawings and studying the lifecycle. We will have a walking field trip to the Hyde Park Farmers Market on Thursday, June 6th. We will need lots of parent volunteers to walk with us! Please sign the permission slip that was sent home this week and return it to us by June 3rd. We also are asking you to sign a general form so that we can walk over to Botany Pond and Bixler Park as the weather permits. The last several weeks of school are upon us! I have given everyone the revised preschool ABC countdown calendar of special days. Please feel free to encourage your child participate. These month and half will be packed with various special events! Please be sure to check your child’s mailbox on a daily basis! We had a wonderful time at the Ray School Walk-A-Thon on Friday. Our students ran/walked with their buddies and then ate a special snack. This week we will be finishing our Garden study. We have talked a lot about garden vocabulary such as trowel, seed, roots and sprouts. Ask your student about the plant life cycle. We are also waiting the delivery of our caterpillars. We have already been reviewing what we already know about butterflies. We will have a walking field trip to the Hyde Park Farmers Market on Thursday, June 6th. This week we will continue to focus on gardens as we watch our gardens continue to grow and come life. We were so excited to come in Monday morning and see that our radishes have started to grow in our root grow farm. Check it out in our science area! Some upcoming events to have on your radar: Wednesday, May 15th - Our ABC count down to the end of the school year will begin! There will be fun activities daily as we start the count down. Be on the look out! Friday, May 17th - Ray School Walk-a-thon: Come walk with us the more helpers the better! Monday, May 27th - No school, Memorial Day Thursday, June 6th - Walking field trip to the farmers market for a kids storytelling and music event. Dear Families:
The children have had a wonderful time reading different versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They found the similarities and differences in the stories. Ask your child to tell you the story of the Three Bears! This week we will be focusing on gardening and planting. We will explore what happens when we plant seeds and watch what happens when they grow. We will begin to take neighborhood walks to Bixler Park and Botany Bond in the next few months. I will be sending home a walking field trip form in the next few weeks. Please keep an eye out for it! Please remember to put sun screen on your child before they come to school! As the weather continues to warm up we will be outdoors on the playground and in our garden for longer periods of time. Also, please no flip flop sandals are allowed at school. Stubbed toes and skinned knees are no fun! Upcoming Events: Friday May 17th- Ray School Walk-a-thon Monday May 27th- Memorial Day, No School. Have a great week! We are going to have a very packed last 8 weeks of school! This week we will be working on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Reading all the different versions and talking about the themes and measurement! In the coming weeks we will also be starting our garden project. Our materials will be arriving via Donors Choose today! We will also be starting the our butterfly unit. We will be very busy but we will be having tons of fun as well.
Additionally, we will be working on filling our bucket with pom poms for positive behavior. Each week the preschoolers have picked out something special that they would like to have for being kind to one another and following the classroom rules. Last week, we earned new Lego people. They will be arriving on Tuesday. This week we are working towards a special music day party! Please remember to put sun screen on your child before they come to school! This snack was also a hit, that’s 2 in a row! The kids loved the Ranch Dressing last week and they liked the popcorn this week. Here are the ingredients and instructions: Bolded ingredients will be grown and harvested in our Learning Garden in the fall • Plain popcorn, 15 cups • Fresh herbs, 2-3 tablespoons • 2 lemons, juiced • Extra virgin olive oil, 4 tablespoons • Parmesan cheese, 5 tablespoons • Salt and pepper, to taste • Harvest fresh herbs and popcorn from your Learning Garden. • Pop popcorn and chop fresh herbs. • Combine lemon juice, olive oil, salt in pepper in a mason jar and shake until fully combined. • Drizzle over popcorn and toss to coat. • Garnish each serving with Parmesan and fresh herbs. • Serve in a reusable cup, or on a plate, or on a napkin. • List other ways to dress-up popcorn! • Describe the popcorn flavors.
